Frequently Asked Questions
We’ve answered some common questions below. If you don’t see what you’re looking for, please call us — we are always available to speak with you directly.
-
If your pet passes away outside of our Monday–Friday 9am–4pm hours, you may call to arrange an evening transport, or we can schedule transport for the following morning.
If you would like additional time at home with your pet, a morning transport is often a gentle option. In most cases, it is appropriate for a pet to remain at home overnight if kept in a cool, dry area out of direct sunlight. Refrigeration is not necessary.
After-hours/weekend transport and after-hours/weekend receiving is available if needed and includes an additional fee.
-
Yes. You may choose home transport or bring your pet to one of our locations. Home transport (during regular hours and after-hours) and bringing your pet to us (after-hours) is available for an additional fee. Bringing your pet to us during regular hours is not an additional charge. We will guide you through the options when you call.
-
Individual cremation means your pet is cremated separately and is never commingled with other pets. We do not offer communal cremation.
When your pet comes into our care, they are assigned a unique identification number that remains with them throughout the entire process. We follow consistent identification and documentation procedures to ensure the cremated remains returned to you are solely those of your companion.
-
Once arrangements are made, we guide you through your options for memorial keepsakes and urns, provide a clear quote, and send a simple authorization form to review and sign. Payment is typically handled at that time or through a secure e-pay link.
When your pet is received into our care, we begin by creating any keepsakes you’ve selected. From there, your pet is transported to our private, local crematory. Shore Pet Cremation is a division of Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home, which allows us to oversee this process closely.
The cremation itself takes several hours once it begins. Along the way, we’ll send a brief update, so you know where things stand and what to expect next.
Afterward, your pet’s cremated remains are carefully prepared and placed in the urn you’ve chosen. They are then returned to the location most convenient for you.
Most pets are ready to go home within about a week, and we’ll stay in touch throughout, so you’re never left wondering.
-
We follow a careful identification process from the moment your pet is received into our care through their return home. Each step is documented and tracked using an ID Tag and you’ll receive a Certificate of Individual Cremation as part of that process.
-
In most cases, pets are ready to go home within one week from the time they are received into our care.
We will call you as soon as your pet is ready. We do send mid-process updates along the way, and are always happy to keep you informed.
-
We understand why families ask this.
Because our crematory is an active operational facility with strict safety standards, we are not able to accommodate witnessed cremations.
Shore Pet Cremation is owned and operated by Fellows, Helfenbein & Newnam Funeral Home and follows the same regulatory and inspection standards as a licensed funeral home. Maintaining a carefully monitored environment is part of how we ensure every pet is treated with dignity and respect.
While families are not able to witness the cremation itself, we offer private family rooms where you may spend meaningful time saying goodbye before your pet is taken into our care. This offering is listed under our Services & Pricing page as “A Final Farewell.”
